The Moonlight Tent is made by freelance tent designer, Mike Cecot-Scherer, with 30 years of experience (and 249 tent designs) under his belt. These tents (more geared toward backpackers) will be light and strong; with an array of state-of-the-art features.
The Moonlight Tent Utilizes High-Quality Parts
- Moonlight 2: DAC NSL 9.0mm poles / Moonlight 3 & 4: DAC PL 13.55mm poles
- Polyester 20D and 30D fabric (polyester doesn’t expand/stretch like nylons and stays relatively the same after it rains; no sag)
- Polyester 20D rainfly with silicone/PU coatings; 1500+mm Hydrostatic Head
- 30D Polyester silicone/PU floor; 2000+mm Hydrostatic Head
- Stake-Outs and Guylines made out of Dyneema: a high strength, light weight, flexible and abrasion/wear resistant polyethylene fibre. Video below shows its strength compared to steel rope.

- Wind tunnel tests show that the Moonlight 2 is solid between 20-35mph winds (20mph with no guylines, 28mph with one guyline and 35 mph with all 4 guylines staked down). MoonLight 3 & 4 tents are solid in 30-35mph winds without the use of guylines.
- Swivel CHLs lock poles together at the intersection, which gives the tent its strength (shown below).
- Adjustable 36″ (2.5mm Dyneema) Stake-Outs: a wider area to find a stake down point (rocks/logs/boulders can also be used if the Earth is too hard).
- Special H-clip/S-Stopper combination (instead of normal clips) – no slippage.
- Eyepole freestanding architecture gives it nearly vertical walls.
- Rainfly can be pitched with just the poles (if raining, you can pitch the tent up underneath the rainfly).
- Velcro-closed pouches for your guylines (when packing up your tent).
- All seams are tape-sealed.
