The BioLite KettlePot is great for making a pot of coffee to start your day or cooking a meal for four at the end of a long hike. It is easy to use and safe to handle. If you own a Biolite Wood Burning Stove, the KettlePot becomes an instant hard carrying case. Just place the stove in the KettlePot and close the lid. Underperforms regular pot With the hype about that bottom shield focusing heat for better performance, I thought the Kettlepot would perform at least as well (if not better) than a standard pot. The following timings were made AFTER bringing the Biolite to a full burn with a glorious 12″ heat-nado pouring out its loaded cauldron. I continued to add fuel and did not consider it boiling until the bubbles reached their maximum size (roiling).Standard stainless pot with lid (7.125″ diameter, 4.25″ height): 1.5 Liters boiled in 9:30Kettlepot with included lid/spout: 1.5 liters boiled in 12 minutesKettlepot with included lid/spout: 2 cups boiled in 3:20With the regular pot having a larger diameter, more of its total surface area faced the flames. This shape apparently trumped the Kettlepot’s heat-focusing shroud. Disappointing, as Jetboil has proven that the tall “cylinder” concept can work very well if implemented correctly.Do you find tending fires to be…
Not light but efficient and nicely designed As stated in an earlier review, this is not very light. Let’s face it, the Biolite stove itself is not light either. Unless you are replacing a solar charger or battery pack, a stove, cookset and fuel, the Biolite with Kettle will probably not make sense for gram counters. I will reserve this for bike or kayak trips where weight is not quite as critical an issue as backpacking. This would also be good for 2-4 people who could share the load on the trail. The Kettle is surprisingly large – about the size of an American football. For a cook pot it is huge. You can get 1.5 litres (over 6 cups) in this sucker! The Biolite stove in its stuff sack, including the USB cable and the pot stand (not needed with the Kettle) all fit nicely inside the kettle for transport. Rotate the stove so the probe fits in the spout of the kettle lid. Can’t imagine anything more compact. Snug feet = no rattling. Nice design work. I did not use the included food cup, but I suspect it’s…
