Washing dishes can be a cumbersome experience, especially when your campsite isn’t near a stream. Grab a portable camp sink that packs up small and works as it should! Use it for washing camp dishes, collecting/carrying water for purification, cooking or even bathing. Bigger sizes (10L – 20L) are better for larger groups of campers. Available in 5L, 10L and 20L.
Sink or Bucket? I got this as I transitioned from solo backpacking to family camping trips as children have come into the picture, with the expectation that I would be changing my dishwashing habits due to an increase in volume of dirty dishes. That didn’t turn out to be the case. Though the concept really seems cool, and this product is very well made, after using it I have been left to wonder whether this isn’t a solution in search of a problem rather than the other way around. Here are my thoughts based on my experience:* It did not change my washing habits – Like many backpackers, I carry with me into the wilderness an ethic of conservation, both in the sense that I want to leave wilderness much as I found it for future travelers, but also in the sense that when you hike into the back country for days or weeks, you have only those resources that you carry in with you. As such, I didn’t find this item as useful as I thought I would. I still just use the pots I used for cooking to…
Perfect for a long backpacking trip UPDATE 30 JULY 2014: this sink is still holding strong! It’s been on every summer road trip since I purchased this a few years ago.___________________I bought this for my three-week hike along the John Muir Trail this past summer. It was a godsend, and for some people, a conversation piece. I used this to wash up with, wash clothes and wash dishes. I never had to worry about a completely level surface as this sink takes on its own shape. So many people were impressed with this thing that they vowed to get one, too.Working this was easy, too: just open this thing up and scoop it into the creek for five gallons of water at your convenience. The sink then takes on the shape of a long and narrow bag that’s easily carried to its destination. Using this keeps the creek water clean and it also allows you to use water where there isn’t any water. It’s made of a tough material that won’t tear easily. This packs small and weighs very…
Essential camping tool If you do any camping at all, you soon discover the need for something that holds water. Sometimes it’s for washing dishes, other times it’s for moving water up to camp so you can filter it, sometimes it’s just for washing the dust off your face. It’s always for keeping “dirty” water away from otherwise clean water sources, unless you’re into making someone else sick or messing up the environment.Packing a bowl, even a plastic one, is a messy nuisance. Why not pack a collapsible bowl! Well, in the past, collapsible bowls tended to collapse when you didn’t want them to. They also didn’t collapse that well. The Kitchen Sink is a different matter. It stubbornly refuses to flop over when full, and yet it packs down into small when empty. It’s built bulletproof. I have the 5 liter version, which is perfect for “personal” use either when you’re car camping or backpacking.Remember to use this item responsibly, please! Don’t do your dishes in a water source,…
